Position Overview

Essential Med Staffing Agency is accepting applications for a Sterile Processing Quality Assurance Technician job in Naperville, Illinois.

The selected technician will support quality checks across sterile processing workflows, including decontamination, inspection, assembly, sterilization, documentation, storage, and distribution. Work will be performed according to facility policy, manufacturers' instructions for use, and AAMI ST79 practices.

This is a 13-week travel or local contract with 8-hour shifts, five days per week, for an expected 40 hours per week. Final schedule, facility information, and assignment terms will be confirmed during the hiring process.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform routine quality audits of sterile processing practices and documentation.
• Check that cleaning, inspection, assembly, packaging, sterilization, and storage processes are completed according to policy, IFUs, and AAMI ST79.
• Review sterilization records, load documentation, chemical indicators, biological monitoring records, and traceability documentation for completeness and accuracy.
• Identify quality issues, documentation gaps, and process concerns, then report findings to department leadership.
• Conduct tray and instrument quality checks, including cleanliness, function, completeness, packaging condition, and correct labeling.
• Support corrective-action follow-up, staff education, competency checks, and quality-improvement work.
• Monitor compliance with infection-prevention, PPE, environmental, workflow, and safety requirements.
• Maintain accurate QA records and participate in department audits, huddles, and quality meetings.

Required Qualifications

• Current sterile processing certification through HSPA, CRCST, CBSPD, CSPDT, or an equivalent credential accepted by the facility.
• At least two years of recent sterile processing experience in an acute-care or hospital setting.
• Working knowledge of decontamination, instrument inspection and assembly, packaging, sterilization, sterile storage, and distribution.
• Knowledge of AAMI ST79, infection-prevention practices, manufacturers' IFUs, and quality documentation requirements.
• Experience reviewing sterilization records, monitoring results, tray documentation, and instrument-tracking records.
• Ability to identify process issues and communicate findings professionally to technicians and leadership.
• Ability to work 8-hour shifts, five days per week, and complete facility credentialing and onboarding.
• Current resume, work history, authorization to work in the United States, and required health or screening documents.
• Additional certifications, skills checklists, screenings, or facility-specific documents may be required before the start date.

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous travel or contract sterile processing experience.
• Prior experience in a Sterile Processing QA, educator, lead, or auditing role.
• Experience with electronic instrument-tracking systems and quality dashboards.
• Strong knowledge of AAMI ST79 quality-control, sterilization, documentation, and process-monitoring practices.
• Strong attention to detail, written documentation, communication, coaching, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work well in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
